The Owl Mountains – a region worth discovering

The Owl Mountains (Polish: Góry Sowie, German: Eulengebirge) are a mountain range in the Central Sudetes, stretching about 26 km. The highest peak is Wielka Sowa (1,015 m), with an observation tower offering panoramic views of the Karkonosze, Śnieżnik Massif, and Kłodzko Valley. The Owl Mountains contain some of the oldest geological formations in Europe – their gneiss rocks are over 3 billion years old.

The region is distinguished by its remarkable history. During WWII, Project Riese was carried out here – a series of underground constructions, the most famous being Osówka. Archaeological research continues to this day, and these sites attract visitors from across Europe.

The name Sowia Brda reflects this landscape. "Brda" is an old Polish word for a steep, forested mountain slope – just like those surrounding our cottage in Rzeczka. It is a place where history and nature meet every day.

Sowia Brda – your base in the Owl Mountains

Sowia Brda is a year-round cottage for exclusive rental, located in Rzeczka (Rzeczka 28a) – one of the most atmospheric villages in the Owl Mountains. We sit at the foot of Wielka Sowa, about 2 km from Sokolec.

  • Exclusive rental – privacy and peace, no other guests.
  • Up to 6 guests – perfect for families and groups of friends.
  • Sauna and jacuzzi (extra charge) – recovery after a day on the trails.

  • Kitchen, Wi-Fi, parking – everything you need.

We have known the Owl Mountains for years and manage this property personally. We are happy to recommend which trail to take, where to eat, and what to see – both popular attractions and hidden corners of the region.
